About Maryann McCann

Maryann McCann

I was raised in Orange County and swam competitively from childhood through junior college and loved the sport of swimming.  Since my entire family either swam or played water polo, I really had no other choice but to swim! I am one of seven children, so I think my parent's strategy to keep us all physically fit and participating together was really quite a smart idea.  During high school, I swam at the varsity level for all four years for Costa Mesa High School, and set two records, one in the 100 breast (my favorite event) and one in 50 Free.  No doubt those records were broken a few years later. I then swam for Orange Coast College for one year, setting a record for 100 breast, and the second year at Golden West Junior College, where our team won league that year.

That summer, 1983, I became certified as a swim instructor and lifeguard, and began teaching swim lessons from then on over the next 10 years. During that time I became an instructor trainer and lifeguard instructor trainer for the American Red Cross and began teaching high school students to become trained as swim instructors and lifeguards. In 1993-94 I was the Aquatic Director for the City of Perris and created a new summer swim program.

In 1995 became the Aquatic Director for the the City of Temecula and continued to teach swim lessons, water aerobics, and diving. Since then I decided to continue teaching but I moved into the classroom teaching elementary and high school. In 2005-06 I was the head swim coach for TVHS (before we had our own pool).

We are looking forward to a fantastic year as the TVHS swim coaches for the mighty Golden Bears!
